 The pageant featured performances from far and wide and included Aboriginies, Native Americans and Zulu Warriors, who performed alongside national favourites such as The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, Dame Helen Mirren and Susan Boyle.  

 This two hour highlights programme is a wonderful extravaganza that was indeed fit for a Queen.  At the heart of this great pageant was her Majesty’s greatest passion, her love for horses.

2012 Burghley Horse Trials NOW on DVD

 Burghley’s popularity reached new heights in 2012 with a record attendance of 178,000 fans and no less than six previous Burghley Champions and seven London 2012 Olympic medallists among the eighty five entries from eleven countries.

 American rider Sinead Halpin with Manoir de Carneville were the only partnership to post a score of under 40 penalties in the dressage and took the lead after producing by far the most fluent and accurate test.

 Best on cross country day was again Sinead, with Andrew Nicholson moving up into second place with Avebury, close behind the defending champions William Fox-Pitt and Parklane Hawk and Oliver Townend and his new ride Armarda.

 With less than eight penalties separating the top four on show jumping day, who would hold their nerve to take the £55,000 first prize: could Sinead become only the third American rider to win the Burghley title, might Andrew add to his two previous successes or would William achieve an incredible seventh Championship with Oliver also very much in the running for what would be his second title.

THE SECRET OF A SUCCESSFUL HALT – DRESSAGE EXPLAINED PART 1

 A successful halt is the key to good riding.  It’s of greatest importance – often used and practiced, yet surrounded by uncertainty and misunderstanding.

How does one get the perfect “halt”? What does “sit back and deep in the saddle” mean anyway? Why does the leg have to be on when I want to halt? How can I resist without pulling backward? What should I do when my horse leans on the bit? Why does it always take me half a circle to manage to go from trot to walk?

 These endless questions are explained and the techniques for successful halts taught. The program features both amateurs and professionals including Olympic champion Ingrid Klimke. Well known physiotherapist Helle Kathrine Kleven explains the biomechanical reactions to the aids during a halt.

 Born in 1949, Reinhart Koblitz is a professional riding instructor and German Riding Association trainer with more than 40 years experience. He currently trains his students from the lower levels up to successfully competing at FEI including the Olympics.

The World of the Horse - Burghley

The World of the Horse (WOTH) shopping pavilion will once again provide a great equestrian shopping experience at Burghley.  Following the cancellation of many events in 2012 owing to the adverse weather, Burghley is set to provide a feast of exciting things on offer for people starved of shopping opportunities.

In 2012 the WOTH pavilion at Burghley moves to a prestigious new site by the Lion Bridge and the members marquee, affording easy access for spectators and close proximity to the main arena.  This will be a highly visible position and will be widely signposted.

Burghley has attracted an exciting range of stands for the WOTH pavilion featuring new and innovative equestrian products - there will be something for everyone. Leading equestrian companies include Equestrian Vision, Mountain Horse and Maxavita, they bring their latest designs and innovations.  The thrilling Racewood show jumping and cross country simulator will be in the pavilion to test the riding skills of adventurous shoppers.  There will be advice on hand from a wide range of companies supplying everything from feed to magnetic rugs.
